Immunization Review and Update Online Continuous Course developed by Kara Schrader, DNP, NP-C. 
Dr. Schrader is an Assistant Professor of Health Programs at the Michigan State University College of Nursing. In her professional roles, she has provided nursing care and educated future and current nurses for nearly 30 years. Currently, she provides primary care services as a board certified, Family Nurse Practitioner at the MSU Family Health Center.  Prior to her current practice, Dr. Schrader provided Family Nurse Practitioner services to women at the Ingham County Health Department, Women’s Health Center and Willow Adolescent Center. At Michigan State University, Dr. Schrader teaches graduate students in the nurse practitioner program providing instruction in Primary Care Management, Applied Pharmacology, and independent study projects; both in clinical and classroom environments. She is active in local, regional and national organizations to benefit primary care practice and the profession of nursing. Dr. Schrader earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Frontier Nursing University, a Master of Science in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner Track from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Michigan State University College of Nursing.
This online offering serves the goal of improving nurses’ basic knowledge of immunizations; and to improve awareness of potential barriers to administration of immunizations, particularly within rural health settings.
The learner outcome of this offering is:
RNs will enhance knowledge of immunizations and barriers encountered for commonly administered immunizations to populations within communities, achieving at least 80% accuracy on the post-test quiz.
At the conclusion of the online offering, the learner will be able to:
1. Describe specific vaccine preventable illnesses and their current trends2. Explain the rationale for routine vaccination3. Use current immunization guidelines from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention4. Access resources to assist providers and patients related to immunizations and the prevention of vaccine preventable illiness
This program complies with the requirement for continuing nursing education (CNE) and provides 1.22 contact hours. The learning activity will be available to learners for 3 years, until 2021. There is no conflict of interest for anyone with the ability to control content for this activity. Successful completion criteria for CNE includes an engagement with the required content, 80% or better pass rate on the course quiz, and a completed evaluation.
